  • Average age of the vines

    40 years

  • Yield

    54 hl/ha

50% stainless steel tanks, 50% barrel fermented in 1-2 year old oak barrels.

15 - 18 months in barrel, on fine lees.

  • Serving Temperature

    Between 12 - 14°C.

  • Situation

Blanchot called "couste de blanchot" in 1537, comes from the Germanic word "clear". This climate undoubtedly takes its name from the stony nature of the soil, composed of whitish limestone, and the light-colored clay-limestone subsoil.
The climate faces south-east, on the slopes of a cool, well-ventilated valley that receives only morning sunshine. The limestone soils drain well.

    • Chablis Grand Cru Blanchots 2022 - The World of Fine Wine - January 2024 - 93/100

Delicate, floral, crisp, and super-saline. I like the intensity, cold, mineral purity, and lively persistance. 2027-35

    • Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchot" 2022 - Burgundy Report, Bill Nanson - "A great combination of assets

Half barrel elevage but never with new ones.

Hmm - this is an elegant nose and it implies florals too. I really love the shape and texture of this. Very complex, easy going but long too. It's a great combination of assets - I like it very much. (UK, March 2024)

    • Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 2021 - James Suckiling - July 2023 - 95/100

Very youthful, but with the kind of vitality and flintiness I remember the great Chablis from the best vintages of the 1990s having. Nice touch of toasted baguette, but also plenty of Amalfi lemon. Concentrated and firmly structured this is quite a radical expression of this appellation. Needs some time to reach its peak, but very exciting. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

    • Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchot" 2021 - Burgundy Report Bill Nanson - February 2023

There's a hint of barrel but what a fine nose - tons of floral perfume and very open - lovely! Fuller, rounder but no less structure and clarity. Not quite the fluidity of the last wine but there's more of everything else here - the barrel is present in the finish too. Wait 5-6 years before dipping your toe into the water but this is a lovely Grand Cru.

    • Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 2020 - Vert de Vin - June 2023 - 16.25 / 92-93

The wine has a pale lemon-yellow color. The nose is subtle and still closed, but expresses complexity, a fruity and delicate spiciness. It expresses notes of ripe lemon, lemon zest and candied grapefruit, white peach, quince and yellow plum, combined with fine touches of sweet spices and an integrated and refined woody side. We find notes of vanilla bean, clove, toasted bread, grilled hazelnut as well as touches of fresh butter and yogurt. There is also a fine floral and herbaceous side - the notes of fresh field flowers, fresh chamomile, a touch of lime blossom, tea leaf infusion and peppermint. On the palate, the wine offers elegance, beautiful expression and refined concentration. We find notes of ripe yellow lemon, candied lemon peel, a touch of grapefruit and quince, spicy and delicate woody notes (vanilla, clove, nutmeg, toasted bread, grilled hazelnut), a delicate floral (fresh field flowers, chamomile, lime blossom) and herbaceous (tea leaf, peppermint). The finish is uicy and tasty, with lively acidity and notes of ripe citrus, combined with a touch of good bitterness and a fine note of honey in the background. A wine that has a nice complexity and structure, but seems closed at the moment.

    • Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchot" 2020 - Wine Spectator Buying Guide - February 2023 - 92/100

Round and bursting with peach, melon and yellow apple flavours, with a touch of vanilla and stone underlying it all. Shows excellent balance, with a juicy finish. Drink now through 2027.

    • Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchot" 2018 - James Suckling - 95 points

Subtle aromas of apricot, lemon curd and green apple. Chamomile tea with a touch of honey. It's medium-bodied and textured with bright acidity. Sleek and refined. Drink or hold.

    • Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchot" 2017 - Burghound.com - USA - October 2019 - 91/100There is a touch of mineral reduction to the elegant, pure and airy white orchard fruit, citrus and soft quinine nuances. There is a succulent and rounded mouth feel to the attractively vibrant middle weight flavors that exude an evident stoniness on the salty and lemon rind-inflected finish. I like the delivery and this is just dry enough to engender a hint of youthful austerity. 91/2023+
    • Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchot" 2017 - James Suckling - February 2019 - 95/100Some very attractive exotic fruit here with mango, papaya and melon, as well as peaches and more. A riot of fresh fruit and some gentle reductive funk that works well. The palate has a powerful core with exceptional depth and seamless, fleshy drive. There's a lot to like here. Drink or hold.
    • Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchot" 2016 - Burghound.com - October 2018 - 91/100

Restrained and cool nose. Aromas of pear with the addition of a distinct floral component. On the palate, there is excellent underlying tension to the almost pungently mineral-driven middle weight flavors that culminate in a linear, compact and bone dry finale.

    • Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 2016 |90-100 - The World of Fine Wine - March 2018Rich and opulent, saline and expressive, very mineral. Underneath this apparently open exterior is plenty of tight depth. - Margaret Rand.
    • Chablis Grand Cru "Blanchot" 2016 - James Suckling - February 2018 - 94/100A lot of summer-meadow and some oyster-shell aromas here. A sophisticated Chablis with a lot of underplayed power. A long elegant, supple and almost silky finish. Drink or hold.
    • Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 2014 - 89/100 - Wine Spectator - May 2017

This boasts ample richness but shows good cut defining the apple, lemon and stone flavors. The aftertaste resonates with the tangy acidity. Drink now through 2022.
